Edward Alce
b. circa 1794, d. 1862
Parents:
Last Edited: 21 Jun 2021
- Birth*: Edward Alce was born circa 1794 at Eastbourne, Sussex, EnglandB; Edward's parents are unknown, but he must be somehow connected to the Eastbourne or East Dean ALCE families (he does give his place of birth as Eastbourne in the 1851 and 1861 census). His daughter Harriet Louisa Alce used the name Emily for one of her children. The use of the names Louisa and Emily (Louisa Alce had an illegitimate daughter Emily) may indicate a connection to the East Dean ALCEs. It has been left here as connected to John ALCE of Eastbourne as Edward lived at Eastbourne and both the Eastbourne and East Dean lines connect anyway. Treat with caution until further information found.1
- He was the son of John Alce and Mercy Hyland.
- Marriage*: Edward Alce married Esther Hunt on 2 January 1815 at Eastbourne, Sussex, EnglandB, both of this parish. Witnesses: George HUNT and Thomas HUNT.2

Leonard Alce
b. circa 1806, d. 1850
Parents:
Last Edited: 27 Jun 2021
- Birth*: Leonard Alce was born circa 1806 at Sussex, England; baptism not found, parents a guess. Alternatively, he could be a son of John Alce's brother, Thomas Alce of East Dean who had a number of children who do not appear to have been baptised. There is a burial of a Leonard Alce at Eastbourne on 25 Jan 1807 which may support this (if each brother had a child named Leonard it would indicate that John's had died as John lived in Eastbourne and Thomas lived in East Dean).
