  This is the last will and testament of me Thomas Wilkins of Eastbourne in the County of Sussex Husbandman. First I give unto my dear wife Elizabeth Wilkins the legacy of twenty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid immediately after my decease. Also I give to my said wife all my plates, linen, china and household goods and furniture of every description which shall be in or about my dwelling house at the time of my decease. Also I give to my daughter Lucy Bradford wife of John Bradford the younger of Eastbourne aforesaid husbandman the legacy of seventy pounds of lawful money as aforesaid to be paid to her within six calendar months next after the decease of my wife. And after and subject to the payment of my just debts the legacies herein before by me given as and when the same shall respectively become due and payable and my funeral and testamentary expenses. I give and bequeath the interest and dividends and annual proceeds of all the rest and residue of my personal estate whatsoever and where so ever unto my said wife and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life. I give and bequeath the said residue of my personal estate unto and equally between and amongst my said daughter Lucy Bradford and my Son in Law James Simmons of Seaford in the said County of Sussex shopkeeper share and share alike to take as tenants in common and not as joint tenants. And in case either of them the said Lucy Bradford and James Simmons shall die in my life time then I give the part of share or parts of share of him or her so dying unto his or her lawful issue who shall be living at my decease equally to be divided between them if more than one. And I confirm and approve the said John Bradford and John Starr of Eastbourne aforesaid Yeoman joint executors in trust of this my will. And I hereby authorise and empower my executors or administrators for the time being to invest and place out at interest in or upon any of the public stocks or funds or in or upon any good and sufficient real security or securities all such sum or sums of money as shall come into his or their hands by virtue of this my will. And from time to time to sell or call in and reinvest and replace the same at interest in a manner foresaid and I will declare that neither of my said executors or executor or administrators of either of them shall be answerable or accountable for the assets deeds or default of the others or other of them nor for any loss that may happen by way or means without his or their respective wilful neglect or default. And I further authorise my said executors and administrators in the first place to deduct and retain all such costs charges and expenses as he or they shall respectively sustain or put unto in or about the execution of this my will or in any way concerning the same. And lastly I revoke all former wills made by me. In testimony where I the said Thomas Wilkins the testator have herein to act my hand and seal the fifteenth day of January in the year of our lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventeen.

He had eight children after marrying Susanna Knight in 1774 Second son also Joseph 1777 -1851 died of liver sclerosis and had 13 children.
