- Anecdote*: Notes from Geoff Barber: Arthur Taylor's son Ronald Arthur Taylor (1925-2003 ) told me that he remembered staying with some of Arthur's relatives when he was a boy. They lived at Selmeston, a small village between Lewes and Eastbourne. He said their name was Finlayson but I now know that this should be Finley. He said they were Constable Fred Finley and his son Chubb and that they might have been cousins on Arthur's mother's side (i.e. Annie Mary Taylor nee Wadey). We now know that Fred Finley was the son of Harry Finley and Ruth Wren, and that Harry Finley had a long term relationship with Annie Mary Taylor after his wife died and after Annie's husband George Taylor left her. Harry Finley and Annie Mary Taylor had two children together.
Ron remembered the Barley Mow pub as the centrepiece of the village and the constable having a drink with the boys and having to hide his drink from the sergeant of police who had wandered in (but who knew what was going on). - Death*: Frederick William Finley died in 1968 at Eastbourne, Sussex, EnglandB.
