John Young
b. circa 1665, d. November 1719
Parents:
Father: Samuel Young b. 6 Jun 1624, d. Sep 1689
Last Edited: 6 May 2023
- Birth*: John Young was born circa 1665 at Beddingham, Sussex, EnglandB.
- He was the son of Samuel Young.
- Anecdote: This John Young is the son mentioned in the will of Samuel Young of Beddingham (proved 1689). The will leaves him property in Ashburnham which supports the marriage to Mary Chamber as being the correct one (where he is mentioned as being "of Ashburnham"). John and Mary's first two children were baptised in Ashburnham but the remainder of the children were baptised in Denton, a small village next to South Heighton where his sister Elizabeth lived after her marriage to William Hollands. It is interesting to note that Elizabeth died in 1696 and was buried at Beddingham (where she grew up), along with their son John who had died in 1694. John Young's will of 1719 (see below) confirms these connections.
- (Witness) Will: John Young is mentioned in the will of Samuel Young dated 26 September 1689 at Beddingham, Sussex, EnglandB.1,2
- Marriage*: John Young married Mary Chambers, daughter of James Chambers and Mary Bean, on 22 December 1702 at Seaford, Sussex, EnglandB, John Young of Ashburnham; Mary Chamber of this parish.3
- Anecdote: John Young's will of 1719 indicates that he held the manor of Runtington. A map of the manor is listed at The National Archives as being held by the East Sussex Record Office "AMS5711 Map of John Young's manor of Runtington, Heathfield, by Thomas Wood, 1709."
- (Witness) Will: John Young is mentioned in the will of Mary Taylor dated 15 May 1710 at Seaford, Sussex, EnglandB.4,5
- Occupation*: John Young was a mercer in 1719.6
- Will*: John Young left a will made on 26 October 1719 at Newhaven, Sussex, EnglandB.6,7
