In the Name of God Amen I Harry Packham of Cuckfield in the county of Sussex Yeoman being of sound and well disposing mind memory and understanding Do this twenty eighth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty four make this my last will and testament in writing in manner and form following (that is to say) First I will that all just debts which I shall owe at the time of my decease be first duly paid and discharged Item I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary the sum of twenty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to her by my executors hereinafter named as soon as conveniently maybe after my decease Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife Mary one feather bed and furniture thereto belonging, chest with drawers six pairs of sheets six towels six tablecloths two oak chests clothes press six chairs, one iron porridge pot, one bell brass skillet, one tea table chamber table, and such other household goods and household stuff as shall be needful and necessary for her own use to be delivered to her by my executors hereinafter named after my decease and to be at her //
own disposal afterwards All the rest residue and remainder of all my personal estate of what nature or kind so ever and wheresoever not hereinbefore given and bequeathed I give and bequeath unto my two brothers in-law John Haynes and Robert Haynes In Trust for them the said John Haynes and Robert Haynes or the survivor of them to make sale thereof for the most money that can be gotten for the same and the money arising by such sale to place the same out at interest on the best security or securities that can be gotten for the same and the interest thereof arising to pay from time to time unto my said wife Mary during the term of her natural life And my will and meaning further is that if such interest money shall not be sufficient for the support and maintenance of my said wife Mary Then in such case it shall and may be lawful and I do hereby direct that such deficiency shall be paid to her by and out of the principal money before directed to be put out to interest as by the judgement and discretion of them the said John Haynes and Robert Haynes or either of them shall seem just and reasonable so to do And from and immediately after the death of my said wife Mary I give and bequeath unto my son Harry Packham the sum of fifteen pounds to be paid him out of the said principal money All the remainder of the principal money I give an bequeath unto my four children that is to say Jenny wife of Thomas Greenfield, my son Harry Packham, Mary Packham and Sarah Packham To be equally divided amongst them share and share alike And moreover my will is and I hereby expressly declare that they the said John Haynes and Robert Haynes their or either of their executors or administrators shall not be charged or chargeable with or accountable for more of the said monies than he or they shall actually receive nor with or for any loss which shall happen so as such loss happened without their wilful default nor the one of them for the other of them And also that it shall and may be lawful for them and each of them their and each of their executors and administrators in the first place by and out of the premises to deduct and reimburse him and themselves all such loss costs charges and expenses as be they or any of them shall sustain expend or be put unto for or by //

- Anecdote: The East Sussex Land tax assessment 1785 shows that the property known as Lyes in the south part of Cuckfield is occupied by "the estate of Harry Packham". The owner is Francis Sergison, Esq. Lyes ended up in the hands of his son Henry/Harry Packham of Cuckfield who married Ann Bartholomey in 1782 at Clayton. The 1785 assessment also shows a property known as "part of Webb's land" and "the other part" in the occupation of Harry Packham, probably the son Harry as this property is known to have also ended up in the son's hands as it is mentioned as his abode on some of his childen's baptisms. The owner of Webb's is Henry Wood.8
