In the name of God Amen The nynteenth day of September 1641 I John Foord of Barcombe in the County of Sussex yeoman being sick in bodie yet notwithstanding in good and perfect memory praise and thankes be unto Almighty God therefore doe make and ordayne this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following First I bequeath my soule into the hands of Allmighty God And my bodie to the earth from whence it came and as concerning my worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased Allmighty God to blesse mee I dispose of them as followeth First I give unto the poore of the parish of Barcombe Twenty shillings of lawfull money of England Item I give to the poore of the parish of Newick Tenn shillings Item I give my freehold lands called Beeches or new purchase lying in the parish of Newick unto Margerie my wife for and during her naturall life and after the decease of the sayd Margerie I give and bequeath the sayd lands with the appurtenances unto John Parson sonne of George Parson and to the heyres of the sayd John Parson under the condition following that is to say that he the sayd John Parson shall imediatley after my decease make good securitie for the payment of Tenn pounds of good and lawfull money of England to be paid in manner and forme following that is to saye five pounds unto Richard Dane and five pounds unto John Dane my kinsemen within fower yeares next after the decease of mee the sayd John Foord and Margery my wife which security if the sayd John Parson shall refuse or delaye to make as aforesayde to them the said Richard and John Deane then my will is that this my guift of the sayd lands unto the sayd John Parson shalbe utterly voide Item I give unto William Foord my brother one yonge Cowe with a Calfe Item I give unto Thomas Johnson my Kinseman my gray horse if the Lord doe not seize him for a heriott but if the Lord doe take him then my will is that my Kinseman Thomas Johnson shall have my best Steere and my Roade saddle Item I give unto my sister Dane Twenty shillings Item I give unto my two kinsemen the sonnes of Robert Bish William and Robert to each of them Twenty shillings of lawfull money of England Item I give unto William the sonne of William Coppard Tenn shillings Item I give unto my brother in lawe John Johnson two younge sheates Item I give unto John Lowes sonne of Richard Lowes my kinseman my best suite of apparel Item I give unto Thomas the sonne of John Eversfeild Tenn shillings to be payed unto him when he shall acomplish the full age of one and twenty yeares Item I give unto John Eversfeild my kinseman Tenn shillings when he shall accomplish the age of one twenty yeares I give unto Nicholas Copper my best Coate Item I give unto my brother John Johnson my Cloake Item I give unto the two children of Richard Stanbridge now borne to each of them Tenn shillings Item my will is that my table and forme standing in the hall and my best bedsteddle and my greatest chest standing in the lofte over the hall shall remayne and be as standarde to my house Item I give unto my Kinseman Thomas Johnson my plowe my plowe wheels and one tithe of the residue of my goods and chattels not before given my debts and legacies being paied my funerall expences discharged I give unto Margerie my wife whome I make my sole Executrix Allsoe I doe nominate and appointe my loving brother William Foord and my Kinseman Thomas Johnson to be my Overseers to see this my will performed in all things In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and sealed dated the day and yeare first above written John Foorde Sealed and delivered in the presence of John Michellborne George Virgo William Larde John Paget
This will was proved at London before Nathaniell Brent Knight Doctor of Laws and Master Keeper of the Prerogative Court the seaventeenth day of December in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand sixe hundred fifty one by the Oath of Margery Foord the Relict of the deceased and Executrix therein named To whome Administration was granted of all the said deceaseds goods chattells and debts which any manner of may concerne the same will was granted and Committed Shee being first legally sworne by virtue of a Commission in that behalf issued forth well and truely to Administer the same
