- He was the son of John Wickens and Mary Rossom.
- Name Variation: Walter Wickens was also known as Wiggens.
- Anecdote*: Maintenance bond binding John Wiggens of Cliffe, carrier and Walter Wiggens. Bound in £50 for the support of Margaret Baldy, one of the daughters of Edward Baldy, late of the Cliffe, deceased. [Overseers of thye Poor: Bastardy Bonds] (ESRO: PAR 415/34/1/4) There are some interesting possible connections here, as Edward Baldy married Mary Wickings (both of the parish East Deane) at Stanmer on 1 Jan 1673.
There is also the marriage of Edward Bauldy and Elizabeth Rossome on 22 Jul 1661 at St Thomas at Cliffe, Lewes. - Marriage: Walter Wickens married Elizabeth Colvill, daughter of John Colvill and Mary Walker, on 9 July 1691 at Little Horsted, Sussex, England, Walter WIGGENS & Elizabeth CORVILL of Lewes.2
- Anecdote*: Note that some family trees consider that the Walter Wickens who married Elizabeth Corvil was not the person bap. 1665 at Lewes, but the Walter Wickens bap. 1652 at Westmeston. The will of William, the brother of Walter (bap. 1665) indicates that Walter had children, so he must have married. Also, if it was Walter (bap. 1652) then this would be his third marriage, and it would be unusual to have so many children in a third marriage.
- (Witness) Will: Walter Wickens is mentioned in the will of William Wickens dated 2 May 1711 at St Thomas at Cliffe, Lewes, Sussex, England.3
- Anecdote*: 24th June 1722 - John Wiggins, son of Walter Wiggins, of Lewis, East Sussex, apprenticed to John Weilson, wheelwright, of Rodmell, Sussex.4
