of Tarring in the County of Sussex widow being sicke and weake
of body but of perfect minde and memory praised be God for itt
and considering the uncertainty of this life doe make and ordain
this my last will and testament in manner & forme following
ffirst and principally I comend my soule to Almighty to~
Almighty God my maker trusting in & by the meritts of Jesus
Christ my savour and redeemer to have full pardon & remission
for my sinns; my body I comitt to the earth from whence itt
came to be decently buried att the discretion of my Executor
herein after named and appointed and as for such worldly goods
as itt hath pleased Almighty God to bestow upon me I doe will
and dispose of them as followeth (Imprimis whereas I have
surrendered to the use of my last will in writeing one Cottage
and two Roods of land thereto belonging called matthews ~
Two acres of land called Stoneford and two acres and one
Rood called the Plashett with th'appurtenances in Willingdon
and all other my Coppyhold mesuage & lands holden of the
mannor of Willingdon aforesaid, In pursuance of the said
surrender; I doe will and devise the said Cottage and lands~
with th'appurtenances to John Savage my Eldest Sonne and
to his heirs for ever And I doe also will and devise to the s'd
John Savage my son and to his heirs for ever one Barne
and two Roods of land lying in Wilingdon aforesaid p'cell
of Symondses one Croft of land thre containing by Estimation
Three Roods more or lesse late Nicholases Three Roods
of land there late S'r Nicholas Parkers five acres of land ~
there late Richard’s, one roode of land lying in East wish
and two roods of lying next Summers wish in Willingdon aforesaid.
With their and every of their App’tences provided never
the lesse and upon this condition That the said John ~
Savage my son shall within Six months next after my
decease give good security to my overseers herein after
named and to the Survivors of them to pay the severall
Legacies and sums of money hereafter named to his Brothr &
Sister and Relations hereafter named, That is to say
to William Savage my son the summe of Eight pounds of
Lawfull money of England two years after my decease
If he shall be then living, Item to Richard Savage my
sonne the summe of fifteene pounds of like money to be

In the name of god Amen. I Stephen Beane of Seaford in ye County of Sussex Labourer, beeing weake in body, but I thanke god of good understanding and perfect memory, do make this my Last will in testament in manner & forme following. First I bequeath my soule into ye hands of god hoping to bee saved by the meritts and death of my Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ: My body to the earth from whence it was taken to bee decently buried in ye Churchyard of Seaford. As for the small portion of worldly goods, wherewith it hath pleased god to blesse mee, I dispose therof as followeth. First I will & bequeath my house and garden & backside & barne with all the appurtenances to my loving wyfe Margery Beane during the terme of her naturall lyfe: and after her decease I will & bequeath my said house garden & backside to my three eldest Daughters Elizabeth Jeffrey, Joane Beane & Anne Beane: and my will is that if my sonne in lawe William Jeffrey & his wyfe my daughter Elizabeth Jeffrey shall desire to enioy my said house garden & backside that they shall have it paying to my twoo yonger daughters their sisters Joane and Anne Beane twoo third parts of the uttmost value the said house garden and backside shalbee iudged to bee worth: or if my said sonne in lawe William Jeffrey and Elizabeth his wyfe my daughter shall refuse it then my further will is that eyther of my other aforesaid Daughters Joane or Anne Beane (the choyce still reserved to the eldest) may have it upon ye same conditions, but if neither of them desire it, then my will is they shall be sould to the uttmost value & the mony to bee divided betweene my said three daughters Elizabeth Jeffrey Joane & Anne Beane part and part alike. Item I will and bequeath to my yongest daughter Margery Beane my little Croft or Pightle of land, neere to the King's highway, after her mother my wyfe hathe enioyed it during her lyfe: & also my little Barne at the end of my house. Item I give & bequeath to my wyfe Margery Beane, all my corne now standing upon ye ground: that is to say one acre of wheat, halfe one acre of Pease & halfe one acre of Tares: Item I will and bequeath to my said foure Daughters Elizabeth Jeffrey, Joan, Anne and Margery Beane to each of them in mony forty shillings: to bee paid to my daughter Elizabeth Jeffrey on ye feast of Michaell the Archangell next after the date hereof, & to the three yonger, Joane Anne & Margery Beane at their several dayes of marryage respectively or their mothers death which shall first happen. Item more I will & bequeath to each of my said Daughters, twoe paire of sheets to bee delivered to them by their mothers choyce presently after my decease. Item more to each of them twoo peeces of Pewter & one Pewter candle-sticke. Item more I give to my twoo Daughters Elizabeth Jeffrey & Margery Beane, my fornace betweene them, and my meaning is, that the one shall have the fornace & the other for her part sixe shillings and eight pence & the choyce to bee in the elder whether shee will take ye fornace or ye mony. Item I give to my daughter Joane my biggest brass Kettle. Item to my daughter Anne my twoo next biggest brasse Kettles. Item to my daughter Margery, my best yron pott Item to my daughter Elizabeth Jeffrey my least brass Kettle. Item to my daughter Anne one little yron Kettle Item to my daughter Elizabeth Jeffrey my bigger yron Kettle. Item to each of my daughters a chest according to their mothers choyce. Item to my daughter Anne my little Cupboard in ye hall Item to my twoo daughters Joane & Anne to each of them, a bed, boulster & blankett at their severall dayes of marryage. Item to my daughter Margery, the bedsheet, bed and bolster which I ly on with all the things upon it. Item whereas I have given to my three yongest daughters, Joane, Anne & Margery Beane to each of them forty shillings at their severall dayes of marryage or their mothers death my will is that if eyther or any of them happen to dy before the said dayes of payment, that then the portion of her or them so dying shalbee payd unto the surviver, or survivers of them three on the said days of her or their marriages respectively or their mothers death as aforesaid. Item my will is that whatsoever legacyes or parcells of housholdstuffe I have bequeathed, to all or eyther of my said foure Daughters they shall not receave any of them during the naturall lyfe of my said wyfe Margery Beane their mother, excepting only such parcels as are expressed to bee delivered to them or any of them at such tymes as is sett downe in this my will. Item whereas I have in this my said will bequeathed my yongest daughter Margery Beane my Barne at the end of my said house, now my will is that which soever of my three elder Daughters shall accept of & take upon them my house, shall also enioy the said barne, & in liewe thereof pay to my said daughter Margery at their mothers death the somme of three pounds & ten shillings & if it shall happen that neyther of them desire the house but it bee sold, that then the said three pounds and ten shillings shalbee paid to her, out of the summe the house is sold for, & ye remainder to bee divided betweene my said three eldest daughters part and part alike as aforesaid. Lastly I do herby acknowledge this to bee my last will & testament, wherof I do make my loving wyfe Margery Beane the full & sole executrix, & do will & bequeath to her by these presents all and singular my goods & chattells housholdstuffe & w'tsoever els unbequeathed in this my last will & testament. And I doe herby allso nominate my friend & neighbour John Hyde of Seaford & my cousin Henry Beane of Blachingdon overseers of this my last will.
