Henry Aderoll alias Skinner
b. circa 1548, d. circa 1613
Parents:
Mother: Margaret Scot b. c 1520, d. Apr 1593
Last Edited: 19 Dec 2023
- Birth*: Henry Aderoll alias Skinner was born circa 1548 at England.
- He was the son of Margaret Scot.
- Anecdote*: Henry is identified in his mother Margaret Farmer’s will proved in 1593: “And my sonne Henrye Atherolle to be my whole executor”. Henry’s birth has not been found so it is not known if he was the product of a previous marriage or illegitimate. He may have been raised by the Barber alias Nynne family and obviously remained close to his mother and step-sister, Gertrude Farmer who married William Savage. William and Gertrude had a large family at Rottingdean, where William Savage was vicar. Gertrude was buried at Rottingdean St Margaret on 28 Sep 1592 and William Savage was buried there on 6 Sep 1619 “Mr., vicar of Rottingdean”.1
- Occupation*: Henry Aderoll alias Skinner was a husbandman on 25 May 1591.
- (Witness) Admon: Henry Aderoll alias Skinner witnessed the admon of Thomas Farmer at Merke dated 25 May 1591 at Archdeaconry of Lewes, Sussex, England.2
- (Witness) Will: Henry Aderoll alias Skinner is mentioned in the will of Margaret Scot dated 12 March 1591/92 at Rotherfield, Sussex, EnglandB.1
- Anecdote: On 6 Jul 1612, Henry Aderoll alias Skynner made a will in which George Nynne alias Barber was appointed the executor and all the Nynne alias Barber children named as beneficiaries along with the children of William Savage. There is no indication of the relationship between Henry Aderoll and the Barber or Savage family. One is left to speculate whether Henry was an illegitimate child who may have been raised or apprenticed to either family. The 1597 map of the Survey of the Manor of Rotherfield shows properties close to George Barber held by a Nicholas Adroll, Thomas Adroll and also a Robert Skinner but they are not mentioned in Henry Aderoll alias Skinner's will.
- Will*: Henry Aderoll alias Skinner left a will made on 6 July 1612 at Rotherfield, Sussex, EnglandB.3
- Will/Adm Transcript*: The will reads: In the name of God Amen the vith day of July in the year of our lord god one thousand six hundred and twelve I Henry Aderoll als Skynner of Retherfeild in the county of Sussex being sicke in body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks be given to Allmightie God therefore doe make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and forme following that is to say ffirst and principally I will and bequeath my soule unto Allmightie God my nercifull maker, Saviour and Redeemer by whome and through whome I hope to have foregiveness of all my synnes and my body to the earth from whence it came and Decently to be buried where it shall please God.
