- Anecdote: The Rotherfield manorial court held on 9 Jul 1646 confirms the deaths of John's brother William Latter, his wife Elizabeth and daughter Agnes. John is left to inherit the property which would otherwise have succeeded to Agnes:
They present that Agnes Latter only daughter of William Latter deceased who held to her and her heirs the succession (...... after the death or forfeiture [of the property] of Elizabeth formerly wife of said William & mother of the said Agnes) of & in a messuage, house, garden & 2 parcels containing by estn 4 acres with appurtenances situate at Towne rowe[?] in Rotherfield since last court died so seised and that John Latter is uncle & heir of the said Agnes viz. only brother of the said William her father comes the said John & prays etc the succession etc. To whom the lady grants etc And he makes releif 3/-etc.3 - Marriage*: John Latter married Elizabeth (?) circa 1649 at England.
- Anecdote: The children Edmund and John are mentioned in the will of their grandfather, Edmund Latter.4
- Death*: John Latter died in 1654 at Rotherfield, Sussex, EnglandB. (no burial record exists probably because of the poor record keeping during the English Civil War.)5
- Anecdote: The Rotherfield manorial court records of 24 May 1654 state that John Latter the younger has died since the last court meeting was held and that he died with the right to possess (after the death of Elizabeth wife of John Page, wife of the late William Latter, and who is still living at this stage) of viz. one messuage & 5 acres of assart land with appurtenances & that Edmund Latter is his eldest son & heir to the premises & within age viz. of the age of four or five years and that after his death there happened nothing to the Lady for a heriot because it was a reversion etc. [This is just a notification to the court of Edmund's right to his inheritance which the court accepts and records]6

On the examination of Anne MOORE an inhabitant of All Saints, Lewes singlewoman, it appears that John LATTER of St Michael's had carnal knowledge of her and by him she had a male bastard born in All Saints named John; LATTER has run away leaving the child to the charge of All Saints; he had to him and his heirs a messuage or tenement and 5 acres of land called Salters Hill at Town Row, Rotherfield in the possession of Richard RUSSELL; JP's ordered the rents to £5 per annum to be paid to All Saints; he had no goods to be found; order is now confirmed with the right of All Saints to re-tenant the property if Russell leaves. - Anecdote*: The Rotherfield manorial court held on 7 Jul 1695 records:
At this court comes John Latter a customary tenant & surrenders 1 messuage with appurtenances & 5 acres of assart in Rotherfield held by the yearly rent of 3/- heriot & other services called Salters [at Town Row on Packhams Hill - Pullein]. To use & …… of Elizabeth now wife of Thomas Hutchinson of Rotherfield Batcher & the heirs of the said Elizabeth for ever which said Elizabeth present in court praysed And she gives the lord for fine £5.
The Salters property had been in the Latter family for 100 years (1595-1695).
Note: Thomas Hutchinson married Elizabeth Greenwood by licence at Tonbridge on 29 Oct 1682, with the record stating that Thomas was "of Rotherfield". Thomas HUTCHENSON bap. 9 Jan 1647/48 at Rotherfield, son of Richard. Elizabeth Greenwood possibly bap. 13 Mar 1659 at Tonbridge, Kent, daughter of John.3 - Death*: John Latter died circa 1700 at England.

Elizabeth PAGE (previously LATTER, wife of William LATTER who died 1640) has use of the property during her life so ownership will not pass to her nephew Edmund (heir to the property) until her death. Edmund gets to farm the property before then by leasing it from Elizabeth.4 - Anecdote: Rotherfield Manorial Court 13 Apr 1680
They present that Elizabeth formerly wife of John PAGE & before of William LATTER, who held for the term of her life etc. one messuage & 5 acres of assart with appurtenances in Rotherfield [Salters at Town Row – Pullein] held by the yearly rent of 3/- & heriot & other services since last court died so seised after whose death nothing falls to the lord for heriot because she had a husband [?]
And that after the death of the said Elizabeth the said premises descended to Edmund LATTER & his heirs and he afterwards died without issue and that after his death the said premises descended to John Latter & his heirs as brother the heir of Edmund And that there fell no heriot after the death of Edmund because he had no animal. Comes the said John LATTER & prays etc. And he makes for two reliefs 6/- etc.
