Lucy Verrall
b. 1 November 1780, d. 5 November 1869
Parents:
Last Edited: 27 May 2020
- Birth*: Lucy Verrall was born on 1 November 1780 at Eastbourne, Sussex, EnglandB.
- She was the daughter of William Verrall and Ann Fowler.
- Baptism: Lucy Verrall was baptized on 12 December 1780 at St Mary's, Eastbourne, Sussex, EnglandB.1
- Anecdote: There are three possibilities for the baptism of Lucy Verrall in Eastbourne:
18 Oct 1778 daughter of Samuel and Mary. (This Lucy is considered to have married Michael Godden in 1795 at Eastbourne.)
08 Aug 1779 daughter of Thomas and Sarah. (This Lucy is considered to have married William Dyer in 1798 at Eastbourne.)
10 Dec 1780 daughter of William and Ann.
There is also a fourth possibility in nearby Willingdon: 01 Aug 1779 daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Verrall (nee Batcheller). (However, this Lucy is considered to have married married Richard Duly at Willingdon in 1800.)
There is a memorial card with an obituary for Lucy Boniface nee Verrall giving her date of birth as 1 November 1778. I believe that it is reasonable to suggest that this is wrong and should be 1 November 1780 and that her baptism was on 10 Dec 1780 daughter of William & Ann Verrall. The evidence being:
1. Lucy named her first two children William and Ann. There are no William's on her husband's side of the family so this is a good indication of her father's name.
2. If Lucy's birth was 1 Nov 1780 instead of 1 Nov 1778 then her baptism on 10th Dec 1780 would be just over one month after her birth, a very typical occurrence. My thinking is that her survivors got the year of her birth wrong (often seen with burial records) but not her birth day (which would be remembered).
For this reason, and because there are reasons for eliminating the others by identifying their marriages (see their individual pages), I have concluded that William & Ann Verrall are her parents. - Married Name: As of 4 July 1802, her married name was Boniface.
- Marriage*: Lucy Verrall married George Boniface, son of Thomas Boniface and Elizabeth Rich, on 4 July 1802 at Eastbourne, Sussex, EnglandB, George BONNY and Lucy VIRRALL.2
- Residence: On 7 June 1841 Lucy Verrall and George Boniface lived at Meads, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, both age 60 years (rounded down). Living next to Samuel Godden (36 years) and wife Ann (30 years) and family. and lso George Godden (39 years) and wife Jane (39 years) & family.3
- Residence*: On 30 March 1851 Lucy Verrall and George Boniface lived at Meads, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, George (71 years), Lucy (72 years.)4
- Residence: On 7 April 1861 Lucy Verrall and George Boniface lived at Meads St, Eastbourne, Sussex, England, Lucy age 83 years, George age 85 years. Living next door to William Verrall (44 years) & Jane his wife (41 years) & family.5
