This is the last Will and Testament of me Edward Wenham of Hellingly in the County of Sussex Yeoman that is to say, I give and devise unto my son Ode Wenham and his heirs and assigns for ever All that my messuage or tenement garden piece of land and premises containing by estimation one acre be the same more or lesssituate on or near to the Dicker in the Parish of Hellingly aforesaid and now in the several tenure or occupations of my said son Ode Wenham and [blank] Lewer or their assigns and all that my Brick-Kiln with the buildings grounds and hereditaments belonging thereto situate on or near to the Dicker aforesaid in the said Parish of Hellingly and now in the occupation of me the said Edward Wenham and my said son Ode Wenham or one of us with their and every of their appurtenances all which said premises are copyhold holden of the Manor of Laughton and have been surrendered by me to the use of my will and all other my Real-Estates whatsoever and wheresoever the same or any part thereof are or is situate lying or being but my will is and I do hereby direct that my Executors hereinafter named or the survivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of such survivor shall as soon after my death as the same can conveniently be done cause my said messuage or tenement garden piece of land and premises and my said Brick-Kiln with the buildings grounds and hereditaments belonging thereto and all other my said Real-Estates so devised to my said son Ode Wenham as aforesaid with their respective appurtenances to be valued and appraised by some two indifferent persons who shall be deemed competent in that respect or in case of disagreement by such two persons touching such valuation and appraisement then by such one indifferent person as the said first two persons shall for that purpose nominate And that immediately after such appraisement shall be made then that my said several Real-Estates shall become charged and I do hereby charge the same with the payment of one full and equal seventh part of the appraised value of my said Real-Estates (after deducting thereout the sum of fifty pounds as a preference to and in favour of my said son Ode Wenham his heirs or assigns) unto each of my six children John Wenham William Wenham Barbara Wenham Mary Roods Sarah Piper and Deborah Avery to be paid to them respectively within six calendar months next after my decease And I give and bequeath all and every my goods chattels rights credits and personal-estate whatsoever and of what kind or quality soever the same may be (after payment of all my just debts funeral expences the expences of proving this my Will and the expences of making such appraisement of my said Real-Estate as hereinbefore mentioned unto my said three sons John Wenham William Wenham and Ode Wenham and my said four daughters Barbara Wenham Mary Roods Sarah Piper and Deborah Avery equally to be divided between them share and share alike But my will is and I do hereby direct that the share of my said daughter Barbara Wenham out of my said Real and personal-estates shall be paid into the hands of my said daughter Mary Roods or of her husband Samuel Roods if he shall survive her in order that she or he shall from time to time during the life of my said daughter Barbara Wenham pay apply and expend the same unto or for the use and benefit of my said daughter Barbara Wenham in such manner as she my said daughter Mary Roods or my said son in law Samuel Roods shall in her or his discretion think fit And I make constitute and appoint my said
