• Anecdote*: Mary may have been buried on 30 May 1764. There is a burial at Westham of Mary WHENHAM with an infant John Williams with the comment "no Parishoner (Recd Fees 6s 8d). This is suggestive of a paupers grave. The infant John Williams is probably the son of John & Mary Ann Williams born and baptised 28 May 1764 with Mary Ann being mentioned as a widow.^1,2
• Anecdote: Alternatively, Mary may have married John WOODS on 19 Nov 1765 at Westham - needs further work.
  Also of interest is that when daughter Sarah Wenham married John Marchant in 1788, one of the witnesses was John Christian. There is a marriage of John Christian and Mary WHENHAM on 11 Oct 1778 at Pevensey (both of this parish).
  John Christian (c1752-1833) may be the son of John Christian, yeoman of Pevensey, who left a will proved 1 Nov 1766, who appears to have been a churchwarden and overseer of the poor at various times. John Christian (c1752-1833) died in 1833, 81 years, "clerk of the parish".
  This Mary Wenham may be the one baptised at Pevensey in 1755, daughter of Thomas & Ann, or the one baptised 1760 daughter of William & Elizabeth. There is an earlier Mary Wenham baptised there in 1745, daughter of John & Mary (could she be the one with the illegitimate daughter Sarah?).³
