The same day [7th October 1626]
Dunstall
Which day before Mr John Chauntrell Priest, Surrogate etc. administration of the goods etc. of Joane Dunstall late of Henfield deceased intestate was granted to John Dunstall natural and legitimate son of the said deceased, well and faithfully to administer etc. Sworn on the Holy Gospels etc. The said John Dunstall of Brighthelmstone yeoman and Henry Killick of the same mercer being bound [in the sum of] £100.
Account rendered
Inventory exhibited to the sum of £56 16s
(Transcribed by Claire Wickens, 4th July 2023 for Geoffrey Barber.) - Anecdote*: The administration of Joane's estate in 1626 would appear to be given to John the younger (although we cannot be certain), as she refers to John being a yeoman of Brighthelmstone. John the elder would likely have stayed at Henfield on the lands he inherited in 1619 in his father's will (such as the properties at Chestham).
