In the Name of God Amen I Mary Rothwell of Brighthelmston in the county of Sussex widow being sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I give and bequeath unto my daughter in law Mary Rothwell my wedding ring Also I give and bequeath unto my sister Sarah Jenner all my wearing apparel both woollen and linen together with all my household goods and implements of household, And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate goods and chattels of what kind or nature so ever (after my just debts funeral expenses and legacy of this my will are paid discharged and satisfied) I give and bequeath the same unto my brother Samuel Jenner, my nephew John Jenner son of my brother John Jenner, and unto my said sister Sarah Jenner equally them share and share alike. And I do hereby nominate and appoint my said sister Sarah Jenner sole executrix of this my will hereby revoking all former will and wills by me heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 11th day of January in the 10th year of the reign of our sovereign Lord George the Third by the grace of God Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth and in they year of our Lord 1770.

This is the last will and testament of me William Neve of the parish of Withyham in the county of Sussex Farmer being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding but mindful of my mortality do make publish and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first I give divise and bequeath unto my son William Neve all that my copyhold messuage or tenement lands hereditaments and premises with the appurtenances thereto belonging situate lying and being in the parish of Withyham aforesaid and now in the occupation of me William Neve and my tenants William Chantler and Henry Fermor and holden of the manor of Duddleswell and commonly called late Harrods or howsoever otherwise called To hold to him my said son William Neve his heirs executors and administrators upon this special trust and confidence nevertheless in him reposed that he my said son William Neve his heirs executors or administrators do and shall within twelve months next after my decease either by public or private sale sell and dispose of and convert into ready money my said copyhold messuage or tenement lands hereditaments and premises for the best price or prices and most sum or sums of money that he or they can reasonably get for the same and the net money to arise from such sale my will is and I do hereby direct shall be divided into three equal parts and one third part or share thereof I direct shall be placed out at interest on government or other good security or securities at the discretion of my executor hereinafter named and the interest and dividends thereof from time to time as the same shall become payable and be received to pay the same unto my daughter Ann Chantler (now the wife of William Chantler of Withyham aforesaid Labourer) for and during the term of her natural life and from and immediately after the decease of my said daughter Ann Chantler Then I give and bequeath the said third part or share of the money arising from the sale of my said copyhold estate and the securities and dividends in which the same shall have been invested unto the children of my said daughter Ann Chantler equally between them share and share alike if more than one and if but one then to pay and transfer the same to such only child But in case my said daughter Ann Chantler shall have no child living at the time of her decease then I give and bequeath the said third part or share unto my two daughters (namely) Sarah Killick wife of Thomas Killick of Withyham aforesaid farmer and Harriot Neve equally between them share and share alike to and for their own use and benefit And I do hereby order and direct my executor herein after named to pay and transfer the same to them accordingly Also I give and bequeath the remaining two thirds of the money arising from the sale of my copyhold estate as aforesaid unto my said //
two daughters Sarah Killick and Harriot Neve equally between them share and share alike to and for their own use and benefit And I do hereby order and direct that my said son William Neve (my executor herein after named) his executors or administrators do divide pay and share the same accordingly And my will is and I do hereby order and direct that no purchaser or purchasers of my aforesaid copyhold messuage or tenement lands and premises or of any part thereof shall be compelled or compellable or at all obliged to look to or concern himself herself or themselves after payment of his her or their purchase money with the application thereof but that the receipt of him my said son William Neve his heirs executors or administrators shall at all times be a good and sufficient discharge or discharges to all and every the purchaser or purchasers of my said copyhold estate or of any part thereof for such and so much of the purchase money for which such receipt or receipts shall be given Also I give devise and bequeath unto my said son William Neve all that my copyhold messuage or tenement buildings lands hereditaments and premises with the appurtenances thereto belonging situate in the parish of Withyham aforesaid and now in my own occupation and commonly called or known by the name of more Lands[sic] or howsoever otherwise called to have and to hold the said last mentioned copyhold messuage or tenement lands and premises with the appurtenances thereto belonging to him my said son William Neve his heirs and assigns forever according to the Custom of the Manor of which the same are holden And as touching and concerning my personal estate I give and dispose thereof as follows (that is to say) First I will that all my just debts funeral expenses and the expense of proving this my will be paid and discharged and after payment thereof all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind and quality soever I do hereby given bequeath the same unto my said son William Neve Provided nevertheless and it is my will and desire that my said son William Neve do maintain and support my dear wife Mary Neve during the term of her natural life out of the residue of my said personal estate and out of the profits to arise from my last mentioned copyhold estate herein before given and devised to him his heirs and assigns forever And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said son William Neve of Withyham aforesaid sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former and other wills and testaments by me at anytime heretofore made and do declare these presents only to be and contain my last will and testament In Witness whereof I the said William Neve the testator have to this my will contained in two sheets of paper set my hand at the bottom of the first sheet and my hand and seal to this second and last sheet this thirtieth day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty three.
