- Marriage*: Thomas Page married Margaret Blundell, daughter of Edward Blundell and Dorothy Smith, on 7 February 1647/48 at East Grinstead, Sussex, EnglandB.2
- Anecdote*: Title: Mortgage in fee
Date: 17 Apr 1648
ESRO reference: SAS/FB/544
Description: Dorothy Blundell of East Grinstead, widow and relict of Edward Blundell deceased
to: Thomas Page the younger, son and heir of TP the elder of East Grinstead, innholder; and Margaret Page wife of TP the younger;
for securing the payment to TP and MP of £100 given by the will of EB dated 25 Jun 1644, by the name of 'Margarett his Jewell',
of a messuage or tenement with barn, garden and orchard in the borough of East Grinstead called Gedgers (bounds as in SAS/FB/543).
Witnesses: George Blundell, Edward Lucas
Creator(s) ; Sussex Archaeological Society
Comment: Given her marriage just 2 months earlier, this would appear to be a mortgae on the property "Gedges" whereby Dorothy still owns the property but she has a debt to her daughter of £100 which is now secured by a mortgage over the property. - Anecdote: There is a marriage of a Thomas PAGE and Ann DENTON on 24 May 1670 at East Grinstead. This could be a second marriage but not sure. There are baptisms at East Grinstead to Thomas and Ann between 1670-1681. There is a will of Thomas Page, yeoman of South Malling, proved 9 Jun 1678 (PCC PROB 11/357/55) which may be this person (has wife Ann).
- Occupation*: Thomas Page was a carpenter in 1683.
- Anecdote: In 1683 it would appear that Thomas receives the property Gedges and sells the property to Richard Page, innholder:
Title: Deed of feoffment for 10 and other good causes
Date: 30 Aug 1683
ESRO reference: SAS/FB/557
Description: John Candler of Oxted, Surrey, tanner to Thomas Page late of Ashburnham, carpenter, son and heir of Thomas Page late of Battle, innholder, deceased:
the messuage, burgage or tenement with a barn, garden and orchard or portland thereunto belonging called Gedges in the borough of East Grinstead in the occupation of William Austen
(N: the highway; E: the burgage and portland of Mrs Katherine Payne; W: the burgage and portland of late of Richard Coles; S: lands of Edward Payne esq).
Witnesses: Arthur Kettlebey, Robert Mathew, William Austen.

Comment: Not sure what this is doing. It could be just Thomas recovering the £100 mortgage he and Margaret placed on the property when they married.

(Note: There are PAGE baptisms at East Grinstead between 1670-1681 to parents Thomas and Ann PAGE. Did Margaret die and Thomas remary?)

Witnesses: George Blundell, Edward Lucas
Creator(s) ; Sussex Archaeological Society. - Anecdote: Sometime after 1650, Thomas Page appears to have moved to Battle in East Sussex and become an innkeeper there. His son Thomas has gone with him and may have been involved with the business as well, although later documents describe him as a carpenter. An undated farthing token (Sussex BW22) was issued at Battle in the name of Thomas Page and with an image of a double headed eagle and the words "AT.THE.SPRED.EGLE" suggesting the name of the alehouse was The Spread Eagle. It has the initials T.P. and the fact that there is no initial for a wife suggests that it was issued in the name of the father Thomas Page, not his son.

Other documentation at East Grinstead concerning Gedges identifies him as a inn holder of East Grinstead there in the period before 1650.
This is teh evidence for him being the issuer of the two Thomas Page tokens: one in 1650 at East Grinstead (at The Catt inn) and the other undated at Battle (at The Spread Eagle inn).
