This is the last Will and Testament of me Ann Burt of Cuckfield in the County of Sussex Widow made the seventh day of May in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and ninety one as follows (that is to say) Imprimis I will order & direct that all my just debts Funeral expences and the probate of this my last Will & Testament be fully paid and satisfied by my Executors hereinafter named Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Walter Burt one Annuity or Clear Yearly Sum of Twelve Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid out of my Personal Estate by my Executors hereinafter named unto my said Son Walter Burt for and during the Term of his natural life free and clear of all Taxes and Deductions whatsoever by even quarterly payments on the four most usual Feasts of days of payment in the year (that is to say) the Feasts of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist Saint Michael the Archangel and the Birth of our Lord Christ the first payment thereof to begin and be made on such of the said Feasts or days of payment as shall first and next happen after my decease and my Will and Mind is and I do hereby order and direct that my said Executors do and shall so soon as conveniently may be after my decease put and place out at Interest on Government or other food security in their own name or names or in the name or names of such other person or persons as they or the survivor of them shall think fit such a Sum of Money as will be sufficient to answer & pay the said Annuity to my said Son Walter Burt (over and above all Costs Charges and Expences attending the same) Provided always and my Will and Mind is that in case my said Son Walter Burt shall at any time or times Sell or Assign his said Annuity or any part thereof to any person or persons whomsoever that then and from thenceforth the same Annuity and every part thereof shall cease and determine and be no longer paid or payable and that my said Executors and the money so to be placed out to answer the same shall be exonerated and discharged of and from the payment thereof as if my said Son Walter Burt was naturally dead Item I give and bequeath unto my eight Grandchildren (vizt) Ann Wileman Mary Wileman Martha Wileman Thomas Wileman Sarah Wileman Stephen Wileman Elizabeth Wileman and John Wileman the Sum of One hundred pounds each to be paid them respectively by my said Executors when and so soon as the youngest of them shall attain the age of twenty one years Provided my said Son Walter shall be then dead or have forfeited his said Annuity by Selling or Assigning the same but if my said Son Walter Burt shall be then living and intitled to receive his said Annuity then I do hereby order and direct my said Executors or the Survivor of them or the Executors or Administrators of such Survivor to pay and equally divide between my said Grandchildren or such of them as shall be then living the sum of Five hundred pounds in part of their said Legacies of One hundred pounds each and form and immediately after the Death of my said Son Walter Burt or forfeiture of his said Annuity which shall first happen to pay to my said Grandchildren the further sum of Three hundred pounds being the reminder and in full of their said Legacies of one hundred pounds each and my Will and Mind further is and I do hereby order and direct that in case any or either of my aforesaid Grandchildren shall happen to depart this life before he she or they shall be intitled to receive his her or their Legacy or Legacies without leaving issue of his her or their Body or Bodies lawfully begotten the Legacy or Legacies of him her or them so dying shall fall to and be divided amongst the survivor or survivors of them Item I give and bequeath unto my Son in Law John Wileman of Cuckfield aforesaid Tanner and my good Friend Richard Uwins of the same place Yeoman my Executors hereinafter named the sum of Five pounds each for their troubles in taking on them the execution of this my Will As to all the residue & remainder of my Personal Estate and Effects after payment of my just Debts Funeral Expences and Legacies I give and bequeath the same unto my aforesaid Grandchildren equally to be divided between them share and share alike And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Son in Law John Wileman and the aforesaid Richard Uwins Joint Executors of this my Will and I do declare that it shall and may be lawful to and for my said Executors in the first place by and out of the monies which shall come to their hands by virtue of this my Will to deduct and reimburse themselves respectively all such Losses Costs Charges and Expences as they or either of them may sustain or be put unto in the performance and execution of this my Will or in any other thing in any wise relating thereunto And Lastly I do hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and I declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Ann Burt the Testatrix have to this my last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper set my hand and seal at the Top of the first sheer where the same are affixed together my hand at the bottom thereof and my hand and seal to this last sheet the day and year first before written Ann Burt Signed sealed published and declared by the
